Privacy policy
People by Place is designed to help people understand their real relationships by place without turning a personal address book into an organizer’s contact list.
Information we handle
We may handle account details such as your name, email address, participating organization, and authentication information; the contacts you choose to make available for matching; partner-provided person, address, and district records; relationships you deliberately confirm; actions you record; and limited device, security, and diagnostic data needed to operate the service.
How contact matching works
The app asks for contact permission only after explaining why it is useful. Phone and email identifiers from the contacts you select are transmitted over an encrypted connection for temporary matching, protected with a keyed hash in the matching service, and not retained as raw contact data. They are never made available to participating organizations. Organizers can see only the relationships and activity that you deliberately confirm or share. We do not infer political affiliation, voting preference, or support from your contacts.
How we use information
We use information to provide matching and place context, operate participating-organization programs, secure and improve the service, respond to support requests, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or raw address-book data.
Sharing
We may share confirmed relationship and activity information with the participating organization that invited you, according to the choices shown in the app. We may use service providers for hosting, authentication, analytics, and support under contractual restrictions. We may also disclose information when legally required or to protect the service and its users.
Retention and deletion
We retain information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, the participating program, security, and legal requirements. You can revoke contact access in your device settings. To request account and associated-data deletion, use our account deletion page.
Security and age limits
We use administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the data we handle, but no system is completely secure. People by Place is not directed to children under 13, and participating organizations should not invite children under 13 to use the service.
Changes and contact
